There are a variety of reasons why one might need oral surgery:

• Tooth extraction: An extraction may be necessary when a tooth has become irreparable, caused by too large a cavity, gum disease, bone loss or has suffered trauma. When this happens, your dentist will suggest an extraction.
• Included Tooth: An included tooth is a tooth that, for whatever reason, has been prevented from piercing the gum. Often, the included teeth cause no obvious symptoms and are only discovered during a routine x-ray. Sometimes a tooth can only be partially included, which means that it has started to pierce. A partial rash can lead to a seal, a cyst, damage to adjacent teeth or chronic pain.
• Cysts, tumors or abscesses.
